Reigning Champion Gregorio Lavilla has taken the opening victory of the 2006 Bennetts British Superbike championship after the first race was red flagged on the 20th lap when the second Airwaves Ducati of Leon Haslam high-sided on the exit of Paddock Hill Bend. (see more)
Lavilla said: "It was all going to plan for the team with me and Leon running first and second, so it was perfect for the team. I then saw the red flag and it was not until I came in I knew it was Leon. I thought we would have to go out again, but I am pleased it was declared."
Ryuichi Kiyonari took victory in the second Bennetts British Superbike race at Brands Hatch this afternoon in tricky conditions that were changing throughout the race.
The Japanese ace was the only rider on the grid to choose wet tyres on both the front and rear of his Honda Fireblade which gave him an advantage when fine rain came down at intervals during the race. (see less)
