A day of close racing, dramatic incidents and heavy rain tested riders and teams at the Mallory Park round of the ViSK British Superbike Championship in association with Pirelli. (see more)
Superbike race one saw the top seven riders crash out in a dramatic pile-up as MSS Colchester Kawasaki’s Simon Andrews looked odds-on for his first ever win. The incident, which was started by Josh Brookes claimed good positions for Superbike returnee Tommy Hill, Chris Walker, John Laverty and Karl Harris. The incident earned Brookes a two event (four race) ban.
The resulting melee handed a one-two to the Airwaves Yamaha duo of James Ellison and Leon Camier, who seem to be riding a wave of good fortune. Camier in particular had reason to smile having come through from twenty-third after narrowly missing a first lap accident.
Race two saw heavy rain and an extra practice session as qualifying had been carried out in the dry. This was the first ‘wet’ race of the season, a point made by Pirelli’s umbrella girls on Eurosport! Walker took the holeshot and remained in the battle for the lead with the Airwaves men, before they reversed the previous result with a Camier-Ellison 1-2. The race was red flagged due to standing water and persistent heavy rain on lap 15, giving all finishers half-points in the Championship standings. (see less)
