MCE British Superbike 2011 - Round 11 Silverstone #2
The 3.6m Silverstone circuit was the setting for the penultimate round of the British Superbikes and based in the original paddock complex this time. With such a big circuit the racefans are well spread out making it appear to be sparsely attended with Luffield and Woodcote still the most popular spot for spectators. Talking of Woodcote, standing by the armco at the pitlane entry just watching them come through just feet away in a 4th gear drift is one of the highlights of the year forgetting the fact i'm there to take photo's! The superbikes produced some close racing again with no real drama's this time or visits to the gravel trap, showing you have to be consistently winning rather than just being consistent, I don't envy these boys for the pressure they are under with this new system. Talking of pressure, Ben Wilson must be the biggest victim at the moment, having held pretty much a 2 race advantage ends up walking away from Silverstone with a 14 point deficit and HAS to win all 3 races at Brands if Seeley suffers no woes, a tall order considering the form the little Irishman is on at the moment, definitely the races to watch next week. Another champion was crowned at the weekend in Superstock 1000, Richard Cooper taking the title for Buildbase BMW but the celebration was shortlived for the team as a van with his and John laverty's race bikes were stolen that night along with an awful lot of other equipment. Gutting to say the least. (see more)
