Silverstone SBK Rd9 FIM World Superbike championship 2011
As the curtains close on a weekend of world superbike racing, there were the usual highs and lows, or should that be Lowes..? (I have to credit a fans sign for that one "we're not here for the highs but the Lowes!" - perhaps they could re-word it next time..) Sadly it wasn't to be for Sam as he nearly took out Gino Rea when he went down and I reckon it could have been a brit 1,2,3 so we just had to make do with a great ride by Chaz Davies to stand on the top step in a thrilling race anyway. Carlos Checa also shown us his dominance to take both superbike races in what looked like relative ease with the Hopper up at the sharp end as well after a great superpole debut and a podium would have been a just reward for him and Jack Valentine. Superstock 1000 wildcard Danny Buchan who is leading the British series might have only finished 14th but he is still riding with a broken collarbone from his debut in WSB 3 weeks previously and also suffered handling set-up issues which shows the potential of the lad. The weekend at Silverstone seemed chaotic as everything was so spread out, competitors parking was the opposite end from the new complex and the old paddock was used by the superstock classes which meant a continuous stream of traffic to and fro with scooters, buses and race bikes everywhere. The atmosphere was good though on raceday and the weather, well, more please!
