The Ace Cafe's biggest event of the year, Streetfighter Sunday has grown year on year, to the point where it was so big, the streets around the cafe so packed with people watching anyone and everyone wheelie up and down the road that the time has come for the event to move away from the Cafe and into bigger grounds to do the event justice, stop crowds getting ten-pin bowled and save the Ace from an eviction notice. The Ace have done the event justice we think and moved it just down the road from the cafe to the Wembley Arena, a huge outdoor area where various stalls (including us) were set up showcasing their wares, Streetfighter Mag bike specials on display and a main competition area for the stunters to perform in. As well as this was the Ace Cafe Hostess pageant, which received mixed response.
There was a "Show and Shine" section opposite our stand where attendee's could showcase their bikes, including a couple of LB members bikes. The bikes would be judged and the best one awarded at the end of the show, though to be fair and in support of our members, we think it was a bit of a sham that the winning bike was a cruiser and not a Streetfighter; not just that that, but it was the only cruiser at the show as well! Boo!
The main event was a stunt competition where a good number of stunters battled it out in free arenas and structured challenges. The crowds were the judges with the winner being selected by the largest crowd support. We do have to wonder though; where did all the stunters go who just turn up to the Ace Cafe in years before and didn't need to be a pro stunter, registered or to be insured?
The show could have done with a few more visitors and a few more exhibitors, but we think the Ace Cafe have done a brilliant job of putting on the event with no idea of how many people would turn up. You can't put on an event like this easily and the next few years are no doubt going to see this event go from strength to strength. London needs more events like this to celebrate biking. It's a great day out and we look forward to having a larger presence at upcoming events. (see less)
